Renovations to the Camp Betz Bud Halsey Memorial Bridge

During the week of March 15-22, 2025, a group of dedicated volunteers repaired and replaced portions of the Bud Halsey Memorial Bridge at Camp Frank S. Betz.

Originally erected in 2007, the Halsey Bridge connects the Roman Potempa Memorial Pine Tree Lodge to South Cabin and the OA Fire Bowl over the railroad passing cut through Camp.

Generous donations by Bud’s son, John Halsey, and matching funds provided by The Thunderbird Society and others were used to purchase lumber and supplies including framing, treads, balusters and railings.

The Thunderbird Society is an Indiana 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to developing and providing support of outdoor experience opportunities for the Youth of the Calumet Region.
